The Region
Penola is located in south-east South Australia. The area encompassing south-east South Australia and south-west Victoria is one of Australia’s prime dairy regions, recognised throughout the world for its lush green pastures and productive farmland.
The area has a rich soil, clean country air and wide open space conducive to wholesome milk production and a flourishing dairy sector.
The strong dairy focus in south-east South Australia and south-west Victoria is supported with a diverse agriculture sector that incorporates beef and prime lamb farms, as well as potato farming and a host of wineries.
The Plant
The UDC milk powder and anhydrous milk fat plant utilises state-of-the-art technologies available for the manufacture of whole milk powder (WMP), skim milk powder (SMP) and anhydrous milk fat (AMF).
These technologies focus on the manufacture of low microbiological counts in low, medium and high heat powders. The dryer has a capacity of 4.0 metric tonnes per hour when processing WMP and SMP and an AMF hourly capacity of 2.0 metric tonnes.
